And the main reason of the pop is the water content in the corn. Yes! There is some amount of water inside the kernel of this type of corn which is being surrounded by a shell. This shell is referred as the hull. So whenever you cook or heat up the kernels in a vessel or the microwave, the water inside the kernel shell will get heated turns into vapor and generate pressure inside the shell.
Thus when sufficient amount of pressure is generated the shell breaks down and this causing the kernels to pop. Thus in this way the water get released, the shell breaks and the corn pops up to turn into a fluffy piece of popcorn.
